Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background and journey to becoming the Vice President of South Africa?
A: Certainly. My name is David Mabuza and I am the current Vice President of South Africa. I was born in 1960 in the Mpumalanga province and grew up in a small rural village. My parents were both teachers and instilled in me the importance of education and serving my community. I completed my schooling and went on to study at the University of South Africa, where I obtained a Bachelor of Education degree.
After graduating, I began my career as a teacher, but I soon became involved in politics. I joined the African National Congress (ANC) and was actively involved in the struggle against apartheid. I also became a member of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and served as its provincial secretary in Mpumalanga.
In 1994, I was elected to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and served as the MEC (Member of Executive Council) for Agriculture and Land Administration. I went on to hold various positions in the provincial government, including Premier of Mpumalanga from 2009 to 2018. In 2018, I was elected as the Deputy President of the ANC and subsequently became the Vice President of South Africa.
Q: As the Vice President, what are your responsibilities and duties?
A: As the Vice President, I have a number of responsibilities and duties. First and foremost, I am the second-in-command to the President of South Africa and I support and assist him in carrying out his duties. I also serve as the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, which means I am responsible for coordinating the work of the government in Parliament.
In addition, I chair the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Land Reform, which is tasked with overseeing the implementation of land reform policies in the country. I also lead the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and play a key role in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Overall, my role is to support the President and work towards achieving the government’s goals and priorities.

A: South Africa is facing a number of challenges, but I believe that the biggest one is economic inequality. Despite the progress we have made since the end of apartheid, there is still a significant gap between the wealthy and the poor in our country. This is something that the government is working to address through various economic policies and programs, such as land reform, job creation, and social welfare programs.
Another challenge is the high levels of crime and violence in certain areas of the country. The government is tackling this issue through initiatives such as the National Anti-Gang Strategy and the National Development Plan, which focuses on building safer communities.
